Find the perfect surfskate for you!
Choosing the ideal equipment is crucial for your evolution in surfing.
Find out how to do it: watch the video on the side and read the content below.
In the water, your surfing style is directly related to the type of surfboard you use, and the same is true on land.
At least, when it comes to OVNI surfskates, as they are the only ones in the world that simulate the surf experience of various types of surfboards.
Choose your surfskate based on the surf style you want to practice off the water.
Whether you're learning to surf, training maneuvers, or adding physical memory, or even surfing when there are no waves, the surfskate is an essential tool for the surfer.
Keep in mind which surfboard you currently use in the water or which one you'd like to use for surfing.
If you want to surf off the water as if you were in the sea with a longboard, to do classic surfing with a single fin, then choose an OVNI LONGBOARD surfskate.
All longboard surfskate models produced by OVNI are designed for adults. This surfskate was created for surfing on flat surfaces and small slopes (small waves). It requires a minimum level of skill and is not recommended for beginners.
If you want to learn how to surf in the ocean, the first board you'll be introduced to will be a FUNBOARD. This is also true for surfskating. This surfskate was designed to introduce the concept of 'pumping,' being more stable than the others, while still allowing for easy maneuverability. It is also the perfect surfskate for long, relaxed sessions, as it is extremely easy to ride and offers an excellent effort-to-speed ratio.
All funboards are for adults. It was created for surfing on flat surfaces and small slopes (small waves).
We offer options for high performance (CV-CLASSIC series - with concave shape and tail) or for the most perfect similarity to surfing (CX-CLASSIC and COSMIC series - with convex shape).
If you want to surf off the water as if you were in the ocean with a shortboard, to perform the radical surfing of a thruster, then choose a SHORTBOARD surfskate. All of the shortboard surfskates that OVNI produces are for adults.
We have options for surfing on flat surfaces and small slopes (small waves), or on ramps and bowls (big waves). These models all require a certain level of skill, especially the SHORTBOARD FOR BOWL model, and are not recommended for beginners.
We offer high-performance options (CV-CLASSIC series – with concave shape and tail), or the most perfect similarity to surfing (CX-CLASSIC, COSMIC, WOODS series – with convex shape).
If you want to surf outside the water like you're in the sea with a fishboard, for agile yet classic surfing based on edge transitions, then choose an OVNI FISHBOARD surfskate. All OVNI FISHBOARD models are for adults.
They are designed to surf on flat surfaces and small slopes (small waves).
We have options for high performance (CV-CLASSIC series - with concave shape and tail), or for the most perfect similarity to surfing (CX-CLASSIC, COSMIC, WOODS series - with a convex shape).
The MINI SIMMONS surfskate was designed to provide a radical surfing experience off the water for teenagers or adults of smaller stature/size and lighter weight than an average adult.
There was a gap in the market for a responsive fishboard that could be ridden by people who typically don’t have enough weight to effectively engage the springs and dampers of a surfskate intended for adults with average stature and weight.
All MINI SIMMONS surfskates that OVNI produces are created for surfing on flat surfaces and small slopes (small waves). For people with at least a minimally advanced skill level.
Each surf simulator was designed to perform best on a specific type of surface, just as each surfboard is created for a specific type of wave.
This depends on several factors, such as the type of surf simulator truck, the outline and curves of the shape, the type of wheels, etc.
LEARN ABOUT SURFACE TYPES
FLAT – Flat surfaces, or with minimal inclines and declines
SMALL WAVES – Slightly inclined surfaces
BIG WAVES – Steep surfaces, such as ramps and bowls
The fact that each surfskate is designed to perform best on a specific surface does not mean it can't ride on any surface.
It simply means that if you want to practice surfing, it's best to use it on the surface for which it was designed.
Each surfskate has its own level of difficulty to ride. Just like in surfing, each board requires specific skills, and there are boards for beginners and boards for professionals. WE RECOMMEND THE FUNBOARD MODEL for those who have never ridden a surfskate. For those who already have basic balance, we recommend the FISHBOARD MODEL, which allows for basic surf maneuvers on flat surfaces. For children who want to get started in the world of surfing and surfskating, we recommend the KIDS PARA FLAT MODEL.
Be careful not to choose a surfskate intended for people with a higher skill level than yours, as you will have difficulty riding it.
KNOW THE SKILL LEVELS
BEGINNERS – People who are just starting out with surfskate. This category also includes those who already know how to ride street skateboards, longboards, etc., as riding a surfskate requires mastering a specific technique that can only be learned on a surfskate or by surfing in the sea.
ADVANCED – People who can balance on a surfskate and have already mastered "pumping," accelerating the surfskate with just body movement. These individuals seek to practice maneuvers and refine their surf technique.
PROFESSIONALS – People looking for high performance, who have mastered surf techniques. Individuals who need equipment for competition and heavy physical/technical training.
The fact that each surfskate has been designed for a specific skill level does not mean that it cannot be used by someone with a higher skill level.
The indicated skill level is the MINIMUM LEVEL required for the surfskate to be fully enjoyed.
Each surfskate has been designed to perform best when ridden by individuals of a specific age/physical type. This works similarly to surfboards, which are made based on the height and weight of the person who will use them.
To get the maximum benefit and performance from your equipment, pay attention to your age and body type when choosing your surf simulator.
KNOW THE AGE GROUPS AND BODY TYPES
CHILDREN - From 4 years old onwards
TEENAGERS - Pre-teens to young adults, especially those of smaller stature and frame (up to 150cm tall).
ADULTS - Average height and build. Be careful when choosing the thickness of the shape, as some models (CV-CLASSIC QUIVER, FISH, and SHORTBOARD) offer options based on weight, with a 8mm thickness for individuals weighing up to 80kg, and 10mm for those weighing up to 120kg.
The fact that each surfskate has been designed for a specific age/build does not mean that it cannot be used by individuals outside of these specifications.
It simply means that the surfskate will be better utilized for surfing by people within these specifications.
Sometimes there are conflicting demands, and in this case, choosing requires making compromises.
A stable surfboard is a less agile surfboard, and if you want both stability and agility in a single board, you will need to give up a bit of one characteristic and a bit of the other to reach an acceptable and beneficial compromise.
To get the maximum performance out of your equipment, pay attention to the characteristics that matter most to you, evaluating the tables that accompany each surf simulator.
KNOW THE TABLES
SURF STYLE – The style you want to surf outside the water, including longboard, funboard, fishboard, shortboard, and mini simmons.
TYPE OF WAVE – The surface where you want to surf, ranging from FLAT (flat surfaces) to BOWL (steep walls), covering all degrees of surface inclinations.
SPEED – This refers to the speed at which the equipment offers stability when ridden by an average-level athlete, as indicated in the table. This doesn’t mean the equipment cannot exceed this speed: it just requires more skill to maintain stability.
SKILL LEVEL – As mentioned earlier on this page, this is the MINIMUM skill level required for the equipment to be ridden without excessive difficulty in balance, acceleration, and executing maneuvers.
THERE IS NO PERFECT SURFBOARD, there is the one that best enhances the talents and characteristics of each athlete.
For this, there are shapers: to make the best board for each athlete.
Since there are no shapers in the world of surfskates, as various components, like trucks, for example, cannot be made 'custom,' it is necessary to find the best equipment among those that are available.
And luckily, there is OVNI, which offers several options, as we are the only brand in the world with multiple models and configurations, so everyone can find the perfect model for themselves!
